Baths All Around

The belly button remnants have fallen off and the circumcision has healed. I know - this is much more than you needed or wanted to know at this point. It's only relevant here because tonight, Jon and I got to dunk Ethan in a "real" bath for the first time. He loved it, as long as he was submerged. And, here's our resident stud muffin tonight, playing a little bath time hide-and-seek with mommy. Yes, he's two going on eighteen.

Halloween Preview

Yes, it's a month away, but it's my favorite holiday by far, thus I will force it onto my children for many years to come. A clear choice for this year's costumes are Andrew as his hero, Buzz Lightyear, and Ethan as Woody (Ethan doesn't get much of a vote for a year or two). This Buzz costume was the best $17 ever spent at Wal-mart. After watching him pine away for the costume all morning and afternoon, we let Andrew take it for a test run this evening. He was THRILLED. Hope he still is in a month. Here are some standard Buzz moves:

Flying
Karate Chop
Reciting his version of "To Infinity and Beyond"

New Blog Name

Life moves on, and thus we have a new name for you to add to your blogroll. :) I have to give creative credit to Jon for it - he totally came up with the new title, which I find very cool.

Gotta run... time to feed a little peanut.

Settling In

Things are going along pretty well. It's almost Wednesday already? Of course, I'm doing well to know approximately what day it is. We have a new blog name picked out, and whenever I get time, I'll set it all up. For now, though, little Ethan gets left off our header. As you can see, though, he's pretty much the central focus of all else that goes on around our house. Worried about Andrew? Don't. He points out Ethan and yells "Baby!" periodically, but other than that, Andrew has gone about his regular routine and is as happy as ever. So far so good.

Ethan Jon Burbank

Born Friday, September 11 at 1:48 pm after about 6 hours of labor. He weighed 8 lbs, 13 ounces and was 21.5 inches long. Everybody is healthy and well. We are lucky folks. Thanks for all the wishes and prayers. Now, to get a couple hours of sleep. And also, yay for percocet.

We're Here

I'm typing from the hospital bed and waiting on the doc to arrive any second to get this process moving. Hopefully my next post will contain photos of a healthy little boy and tales of a completely painless birth experience that lasted approximately 30 minutes.

Eviction...

...of the estimated 8.5 pound boy residing in my belly is set to happen this Friday morning, September 11, as long as the hospital is not abnormally overcrowded that day. Yes, this is a fancy way of saying

I HAVE MY INDUCTION DATE!

The doc put it pretty much like this...You will be safely 38.5-weeks along, your kid is big and has a giant head, and we don't need him just sitting in there and gaining weight for a couple more weeks or so, so let's do this.

This news makes me really, really happy.

For obvious reasons, there are times Jon and I would have poo-pooed a September 11 birth date, but after considering all the factors here, it turns out that date will be okay with us. Lots of kiddos are born on that date, and will be forever. It is memorable and important and might even end up being a national holiday at some point. So, we are okay with it. Plus, that date means I will only be hugely, uncomfortably pregnant for another 2.5 days - a GOOOOOD thing. Of course, I was hoping to be scheduled for tomorrow (09/09/09) but the hospital was way booked. No numerologically unique birth date for this boy (unless, of course I do actually go into labor tomorrow, which would be super cool).

WE ARE HAVING A BABY ON FRIDAY!!!

So, say a little prayer for us, please. Even though I have been down this road once already, I am still pretty darn nervous about what Friday will bring.

Andrew's Room

As expected, we have been working to ready the house for B2B's arrival, and this included updating Andrew's room a little. Aside from the big boy bed (which, knock on wood, has been working out famously), redoing his space meant hanging shelves and some new artwork, as well as moving most of the turtle nursery things to B2B's room. Andrew's hangout is now a hodge-podge of Cars, Thomas the Tank Engine, and a smidgen of special turtle items. Centralized theme? No. Loved by the resident toddler? A resounding Yes.

Do I actually believe this bedroom in our glorious rental is worthy of a spread in "Country Living?" No. I just like to see where people live and what they do with space (especially during major life-changing impending family additions) and figured my blog buddies felt the same.

Your entrance is welcomed by the watchhounds.

The gorgeous turtle watercolor above the bookshelf was done by good WV friend Ellie Windom.
Jon put up these toddler-untouchable shelves the other day. They house special mementos from Andrew's time as a wee one.

The play baby crib was mine as a child,
and Andrew loves putting his babies "night night" in there.

Maddie rarely misses a beat when Andrew's playing in his room.

The frog toy box was also mine.

Thanks for taking the tour. Now, bye-bye to blogland for a while to work on B2B's room...
