Andrew's 1st Birthday (Part II)

Andrew had a safari party theme, so I made a lion cake. It ended up looking more like some strange sun with a cat face, but my heart was at least in the right place. Andrew was a bit overwhelmed at all the presents and fanfare, but he seemed to have a pretty good time. Max gave us matching Dorados jerseys, so after the party, we headed down to Hidalgo to take in our first arena football game.

Here we are singing Happy Birthday to the big man. As you can see, he is thrilled.

Of course, we took too many photos of the day to post here in the blog, so please check them out at our Shutterfly site: www.theburbanks.shutterfly.com

A Few Birthday Pics

Andrew's first birthday was today and we had a little party for him here with Auntie Christina and some of the HHS band staff. We had a great time. Here are a few pics from the day. Christina took some more that are really good and I will post them later.

As Promised: Stuff from the Purge

As I said, I'm going to do a few posts about the stupid, crazy things I unearth during the latest purge of stuff. For now, here are photos that made me smile for various reasons. Come on... take a trip down memory lane with me.

If only American Idol had existed 12 years ago! Here I am singing a Reba song with my dad's country/western band on January 1, 1996. That's Dad on the far left, playing bass. He died unexpectedly later that year.

Ah, the usual - me stopping to shush audience members at my own concert in 1999. Guess that's what you get when you try to edify people in a gymnasium.

This one is probably circa 1984. Nuff said.
Here are some wild 4-H members and me showing some skin at state camp in '90.

And finally, the only respectable photo of the bunch: one I took of Jon with the Vic Firth during the 2002 Cadets tour.

Uh dee bah dee bah dee... That's all, folks (for now). You can stop laughing.

43 cents a pound

First off, let me say that I have now set a record for myself - 4 consecutive days of blogging. Never thought it would happen. Might not ever happen again. Where have you fellow bloggers been? Out having a life???

And now, the actual subject of the post: Assuming we DO get a house offer sometime before Andrew's 16th birthday, we have reserved (and paid a deposit to - yikes) a moving company. The going rate to move stuff is 43 cents a pound. Considering that books alone can amount to MANY pounds, one really has to look around at his/her stuff and think, "Do I really want to PAY to move this junk?" SO, we've spent the past few evenings purging. Merciless purging. I am so against "stuff" at this point, I am nauseous. It has been fun, though, to dig into the multiple boxes of scrapbook stuff I have been saving since undergrad. There will soon be more posts about the stupid things I uncover.

NO more being a pack rat. It's costing us money now - 43 cents a pound!

Need a stunt man?

Andrew's latest favorite pastime has been climbing DOWN the stairs, much to our chagrin. He does it anytime he gets a chance, and BTW, the reward in this video is a Teletubbies clip (another HUGE favorite of his these days).
And while I'm writing, here's a Gymboree update for you: I sent my thoughts along to tellgymbo.com and the McAllen owner called me today with her regrets and promises of, yes, a beach ball et al as soon as I can come and pick them up. Kudos to Gymboree for making things right. Just another case of the squeaky wheel getting the grease, I suppose.
