Non-striking

One of my friends asked if there was a blog strike. It's funny - I guess most of us are just in over our heads these days. Much to my chagrin, this whole being gainfully employed thing is SERIOUSLY cutting into my blogging time. :OP New post soon, when I get my head above water....

Shrimpin'

My cousin had business in Jacksonville last Friday, and stopped by the docks on his way home for some seafood right off the boat. He made a stop in Columbia that afternoon to deliver to us a huge pile of some extremely fresh shrimp. There really is something to be said for seafood that's only been out of the water for about 5 hours; Jon and I FEASTED that weekend (Andrew's not doing shellfish yet - just not going to chance it). Shrimp ka-bobs, shrimp alfredo, grilled shrimp (having Forrest Gump memories?)....

Thanks, cuz!

Easter Surprise!

We had a great Easter surprise when Aunt Christina (Jon's sis) rang the doorbell that afternoon! She told no one she was coming - FROM SOUTH TEXAS - just hopped on a plane for a three-day visit! We enjoyed egg coloring, egg hunting, and many other fun things during her time with us. There were too many pics to share individually, so here's a slide show. Gotta love that spontaneity.

Wild Child!

Andrew is really testing us lately. He's only 2 months away from being a 2-year-old, so we're chalking it all up to that.

Yesterday, I called the poison control center because I found him eating zinc oxide diaper rash cream. Not sure how much he ate, but it was all over his hands and face. The nice lady at the center (who asked for my name, btw... do I feel an impending CPS call?) said unless he ate the whole tube, the worst thing he'd experience was a tummy ache and some greasy stool.

This morning, I was putting in laundry when I heard the clank of the freshly-brewed coffee pot lid. This is a normal sound in our house, but on this morning, Jon was already out the door. I walked into the kitchen to find the somehow unbroken, EMPTY pot on the floor, and Andrew standing in a puddle of coffee. It was all over his pants. He was just calmly saying, "Mama?" Luckily, it doesn't look as if he was burned at all.

Just a little while ago, I found our wild child pretty much naked, save a diaper and Daddy's shoes, playing a little piano.

Now, I'm off to brew another pot of coffee (one that will be kept far from the counter's edge) so I have the energy for today's chase. I'm hoping that tomorrow I can do a little better in the whole "keeping the kiddo out of harm's way" category.

First Pony Ride

We took advantage of yesterday's gorgeous spring weather by enjoying time at the zoo. Andrew had his first pony ride and really loved it.

Sick Again, No Foolin'

It's not the happiest of April Fool's Days for us - our kiddo is sick again, seemingly with the same upper respiratory virus that got him a month ago. He was up off and on all night, coughing and warbling pathetically. All he's felt like doing all morning is laying around while watching (and cuddling) Elmo.

I have been subbing like mad, with jobs every single day since I got on the list, but will be off the next couple of days to help get rid of this guy's 102-degree fever. These pictures don't lie, though; there are a million worse ways I could be spending my next two days. :)
